The AKC's Horrible New Breeding Incentive Plan!

The American Kennel Club, (AKC) professing a desire to "share their passion" for dogs(and breeding)with mixed-breed owners, has created a registry for mutts! One dosent have to be an Einstein or a brane sturgeon to know that a reckless program like this is not about a passion for "sharing," but a passion for the almighty buck! Do they really think the American Public is that stoopid? What mixed-breed dog-owner wouldnt want "papers" on his dog? Imagine, being the proud owner of a bona-fide pure-breed "Pedigree Mutt!" Just think of the millions of dollars the AKC will net annually in the way of registration fees, "products & services" and other promotional gimmicks. This program is nothing but the promotion of wholesale back-yard breeding on a grand scale, with no thought to the so-called problem of pet over-population or the high cost of veteinary care that prohibits most people who would otherwise have a pet but are unable to afford them. Below is a link to an article on the AKCs new "Mutt Registration" Program; Please contact them and let them know what you think of this terrible idea!

See also this recent article about a Texas shelter in crisis that may have to euthanize dozens of animals due to lack of funding; The situation is the same all over the nation and is a(nother) National Disgrace that more is not being done to correct these preventable problems;

  1. I don't see how this can be construed as a breeding incentive program when the AKC will only be registering neutered dogs in the mixed breed program.

  2. Still, you have to produce them first, before you can neuter them. There will be a demand for registered mutts.

    OK so you have a "Champion" pedigree mixed-breed who cant breed, but no matter. The value of his bloodline will increase and if either of the parents are known (and "servicable") they and their bloodlines will be exploited. Even if neither parent is known, "look alikes" or simular breed-combinations will be most desirable for breeding purposes. Champions are held up to the highest standards, and once the designigation is bestowed upon a certain dog, breeders will look to that dog as the ideal and seek to breed same or better. This is just my humble opinion but makes sense to me.
